Lyn joined Benton, Benton & Associates as Managing Attorney in October 2017.  Prior to joining the firm, Lyn worked as a health care attorney at one of Louisiana's largest law firms for 14 years.  Lyn is a 2003 honors graduate of Tulane Law School, where she was class president and Associate Editor of the Tulane Law Review.  Lyn specializes in health care regulatory and transactional matters, such as HIPAA compliance, defense of Medicare and Medicaid audits, and fraud and abuse prevention.  Lyn was named a Super Lawyer in Health Care for 2020-2023.  She is also the Immediate Past-Chair of the Louisiana State Bar Association Health Law Section and the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization Health Law Specialization Committee.

Representative Experience:

​

  • Assisted HIPAA covered entities in responding to investigations conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights (OCR)

​

  • Handled various licensing matters before Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, including assisting adult residential care providers and home and community based services providers with changes of ownership (CHOWs)

​

  • Advised individuals and entities regarding the applicability of HIPAA/HITECH, including assistance with risk assessments and drafting HIPAA-compliant policies (reviewed and approved by OCR), procedures, and agreements

​

  • Provided advice to clients on application of the Stark law and the state and federal Anti-Kickback statutes to various proposed business arrangements

​

  • Represented health care clients on a wide range of regulatory and business matters, including the impact of federal and Louisiana laws on joint venture arrangements

  • Worked on legal team defending qui tam (whistleblower) actions

  • Negotiated settlements of Medicare and Medicaid audits
